Early Development Instrument (EDI)
EDI, or Early Development Instrument, is a questionnaire used by Kindergarten teachers across Alberta to assess overall development in a child’s first five years of life. The EDI measures children’s ability to meet age-appropriate developmental expectations in five general domains: Physical Health and Wellbeing, Social Competence, Emotional Maturity, Language & Cognitive Development, and Communication Skills & General Knowledge. It was developed at the Offord Centre for Child Studies at McMaster University.
